Known around around town as "Squampton," Squamish is a town that dances to its own beat.

 

With the backdrop of Stawamus Chief—known as simply “The Chief” (one of the largest granite monoliths in the world)—rock climbing is never far from mind. Neither is hiking or mountain biking—there are over 200+ KMs of trails. Winds often whip down the rugged fjord, so kite boarding is also popular year round.

Beyond adventure, the town also has an artsy edge. Many photographers, filmmakers, and artists of all genres, call Squamish home.

 

Likewise, many tv shows and films have been shot along the shores of the Howe Sound—including the Twilight saga, Star Trek Beyond, and Free Will 3. The film industry is alive and growing in the lower mainland, including in Squamish and the surrounding areas.
